memes? why yes please, I'll have one. they'll go excellently with my brilliant legend.

I've been meaning to update forever because HEY I'M TOTALLY ADDICTED TO BRILLIANT LEGACY and also I just returned from Japan (where perhaps not so coincidentally I got addicted to Brilliant Legacy).

I desperately wanted to do some type of a pic spam because my love for the show is so great, but it's so difficult to slow down enough to cap. I gave up trying to start with the beginning and am just going to focus on the current episode that I'm watching--16.

So I have to kind of say that even though I'm totally in love with Jun Se, it's been clear to me from the start that he's the secondary guy. I like him--I think he's incredibly hot (THAT SCENE WHERE HE'S IN THE BOXING RING AND HALF NAKED NNGGGGHHHHH)--but I've never felt the chemistry between him and Eun Sung.

When episode 15 ends and 16 starts, he's professing his love and all I can really feel is relief when Eun Sung politely turns Jun Se down. She explains that she's going to finish what she started, rather than stop working for the grandmother, and Jun Se says that he understands. I think that Eun Sung and Jun Se are more similar than either one of them realize--they both pick a path and persevere on it. Despite that, it's clear to me that it's always been a one sided thing between Eun Sung and Jun Se. Jun Se has been putting in work from day one and I think that's part of the issue.

If someone is always giving in a relationship then neither person is on equal ground--someone will always feel below the other person. I'm not sure if Jun Se feels that he's below Eun Sung, but he's put too much work into their friendship. I applaud his devotion to her, but at the same time, it comes off as trying to hard.

I'm also getting kind of sick of the mother and daughter. Jung is an incredible idiot, she annoys me so much. I wish the writers had made her more than one dimensional because I'm getting fed up with how spoiled she is. She can't think for herself and her life is only filled with vapid interests: clothing, guys, and money. She only seems to speak in a whine and is incapable of being nice to anyone that can't get her what she wants.

The mother isn't a whole lot better. And I'm pretty sure that she came from somewhat humble backgrounds, so I can't understand why she isn't nicer or more understanding of others' situation. I can imagine that it's pretty shocking to have your inheritance and luxury taken away, but her only way of dealing with the issue is trying to either go behind her mother-in-law's back or complain. I feel like I had more sympathy for her back in episode 10 or so when she had just started working, but when she almost bit off Eun Sung's head over Jun Se, the sympathy stopped. I get that she's hurting over her daughter being rejected, but who is she to assume that Jung was ever in Jun Se's mind?

And then! Hwan to the rescue! And not only to the rescue, but he's the voice of reason. When he yelled at his mother and sister for harassing Eun Sung even though Jun Se said he didn't like Jun, I cheered out loud. And then, in a very classic big brother move, he tells his sister that there are more guys out there.

There's the requisite father yelling at Jun Se, the angsting of Hwan at the table, at the bus stop, as he watches her write notecards to employees.... Eun Sung is actually pretty serious at work, despite wearing one of the cutest headbands I've seen in awhile. They have a moment when they're putting up posters, but then Hwan gets jealous when Eun Sung flirts with a guy while giving him a flyer. Next, in one of my favorite things to ever happen in a kdrama, Hwan confronts her about dating Jun Se. Eun Sung responds that they're in fact not dating but Hwan jumps on the fact that she went to his house. Her response? "This is the 21st century. Is it that serious for a woman to go to a man's house?"

He then continues to berate her, but I can tell that his heart's not in it. He even takes back what he said about her brother. It's pretty cute.

On a different note, I don't understand Eun Sung's "friend." Not the one working at Jun Se's restaurant, but the one that's suddenly become bff with Seung Mi. I guess she never knew Eun Sung if she would jump to conclusions so quickly and side with Seung Mi.

I love the stepmom. She tells Seung Mi that she doesn't want her to become a sinner due to her faults. After Seung Mi has been lying to almost everyone she knows for a significant period of time on the mother's instructions. I still don't understand why Seung Mi lied to her stepfather either, but I guess it's all part of her inheritant kdrama craziness.

I loved the interactions between Eun Sung and Hwan in this episode. Hwan spends a large part of the episode staring at Eun Sung, I think in confusion, but there's definitely hints of jealousy whenever Jun Se is mentioned. I think Eun Sung also is starting to see Hwan in a different light. He works well at the restaurant and has kind of developed social skills. One of the best parts was Hwan talking with the old women. "Oh did I say free? It's not free. You have to be over 65! Not 60 years old!"

And then when he moved the bench and plant so that she could sleep. Adorable! Although Jun Se saw, which pretty much guaranteed that there would be a lot of drama at the episode's end. There was already a lot of tension in the karaoke bar--it was kind of terrific : D I'm not going to lie, all the eye contact made me incredibly excited inside. And when Jun Se confronted Hwan about Eun Sung, everything went to pieces. I hadn't seen Hwan resort to physical violence in a while, so it was kind of a shock to see him punch Jun Se. As Seung Mi watched. A great end to a fantastic episode.

And now a meme that I got from [livejournal.com profile] aoimidori

Comment and I'll LJ stalk you to find three fandoms you apparently love. And then you answer these questions about them!

❶ What got you into this fandom in the first place?

❷ Do you think you'll stay in this fandom or eventually move on?

❸ Favorite episodes/books/movies/etc?

❹ Do you participate in this fandom (fanfiction, graphics, discussions)?

❺ Do you think that more people should get into this fandom?

and the fandoms that alex gave me were Brilliant Legacy(she'd rather I raved about it here than rather to her 24/7), Gokusen, and JE! Yeah! three of my favorite fandoms : D

Alright, for Brilliant Legacy

1. I'm not really sure that I'm in the fandom for Brilliant Legacy--I'm not even sure there is a fandom (but if there is, I definitely DEFINITELY would like to find it. After I finish the show so I don't end up spoiling myself too much.) But I guess that I'll take this question to mean, how did I get into Brilliant Legacy? I really hadn't solidly watched any kdramas or jdramas for a long time--probably almost a year--except for Last Scandal. When I got to Japan, all of a sudden I was surrounded by all these actors that I recognized and I started to get nostalgic for asian dramas so I headed over to [livejournal.com profile] dangermousie's journal to get an idea of what was out there. Lo and behold she had all these great episode squeals about Brilliant Legacy that I just couldn't resist X D

2. So far, I'm really liking this show--and I've just hit the mid point. A lot of dramas I tend to get half way through and then stop, but the fact that I'm still watching episodes (vigorously) means that I'll definitely finish the show. I think that I'll probably still enjoy it after I finish!

3. Episode 14 was really really cute! Especially when Hwan was really polite to the customers and the manager, Eun Soo and the other employee were just staring at him with this look of complete shock on their faces. Or when Hwan kept calling Eun Soo master!

4. Nope. (Is there one? Soompi probably has one)

5. Yes! Or at least watch the show! It's realllly addicting and so far I really like the message of the show. Eun Soo is a strong woman and she's seems to not annoy me the way that a lot of kdrama heroines do.

Gokusen

1. Through the tv show--I ended up loving it so much that I checked out the manga/started reading fics/falling in love with shinkumi.

2. Definitely stay. I go through periods where I'm not actively in the gokusen fandom, but I always return and I always love finding a good gokusen fic.

3. One of my favorite moments of the show is in episode 12 when Tetsu, Shinohara, and the other policeman are declaring their rivalry for Yankumi, Shin suddenly pops up and is like yeah, make that four of us.

4. Yep! Mostly through fanfics

5. Lol I don't really think people wouldn't want more people in their fandom. Unless people are bad fans, it means more fics, more art, more everything. So yes, I definitely want more people to write shinkumi fics.

JE

1. Having people on my flist who were into JE. (I'm super easy)

2. I think I've kind of moved on from the fandom part of it, but I still enjoy a lot of the media. Every once in a while, I'll get a yearning to read some JE, but it's a pretty occasional thing.

3. Hmmm...well Arashi is my favorite group within the JE company and I think my favorite Arashi CD is time. But, I'm positive that doesn't actually answer the question. I love the AAA concert so much and I still have the Ryo as Mr. X on my computer X D

4. I did! I actually did contribute to the fandom. Not in a major way or anything, but it was really fun to be involved. (I did fanfiction)

5. Yes! I always love reading good fic, and if it's good JE fic, I would not mind reading it.

Also since getting back from Japan I've gotten into Being Human. I just finished watching the first seven/six episodes and really like the direction the show is taking. I might try to do a post on it, because it definitely deserves watching.
